Thank you Bernie!!!  I'll have a big peace of that cake did not know you could bake too,you do it all.

I have always, since a young girl been interested in native AMericans and there way of life.have read much about them, but have always been horrified at the way our government has,and still does treat them.seems we could learn a lot from them.

Re: Back to School at the Back Fence - September 2016

Betty, I agree the Native Americans have been horribly mistreated over the years. Recently, however, I do believe they have turned that around. Do not know how it is in other states but here in California, the Indians = Native Americans) own many many casinos. They can have them as they have them on native land = which is extensive in this state and so state nor federal law impacts that. All those living on the reservations and/or can prove they are descendants receive considerable amount of $$$$$ - am not sure how that works but they are doing well. Long overdue  Also cannot say for a certainty ALL receive $$, as I said I am not sure how that works but I do know several personally, and they are happy.

From the time I was a very young one I remember hearing about Ira Hayes = a Native American who was one of the Marines raising the American Flag at Iwo Jima. He was sent on bond selling tours later and did many things. He could not handle the sudden fame and died very young from alcoholism. He was found frozen to death I believe on the reservation he grew up on. That always bothered me. He was sooooooooo young.

Re: Back to School at the Back Fence - September 2016

Hello and Happy Friday Back Fencers

I started my morning on a conference call at work.  We barely made 10 minutes on the call when the fire alarms went off - surprise fire alarm and full building evacuation.  Nothing like walking down 18 flights of stairs with a bunch of people breathing in all of the air.

Let's just say, it was good to get outside.  We continued to walk another city block to the gathering area in a parking lot.

Honestly, if this had really been an emergency, there would have been significant casualties - most people don't take these evacuations seriously :-(

Re: Back to School at the Back Fence - September 2016

I know it is late but I finally got some cinnamon/raisin bagel's. Will leave them here for whomever wants some tomorrow a.m. for breakfast. I am lucky to even get here.

Last night my computer acted up and I could not get anything turned on or going until later this a.m. Still acting up and mid day Windows 10 did an update - took forever and when they do updates they just take over your computer. I do NOT like Windows 10 - had Windows 7, yes I know it was outdated but I did NOT ask for the 10 - it just downloaded all by itself. Have had a terrible time today with passwords. Security FINALLY put a note on late a.m. that a malicious Spyware had been detected and removed. Not sure it is all gone - sure took long enough. Interesting things however - cannot get any sound as it now says my sound is set up only for earphones. Huh? Never use them and I cannot figure out how to get my sound back. Weird for sure.

Am tired but feeling a bit better after going to Urgent Care yesterday afternoon. AT least I woke up this morning. Geez.

Hope one and all had a great day.

@Winifred

hmm, slipped in the urgent care comment.  What happened Freddie?  Were you having trouble breathing?

Shannon and the boy are making you sick.  You don't need the aggravation and the constant running.

Re: Back to School at the Back Fence - September 2016

No, the gamut of sore throats, deep coughing was making the rounds in the household. Since I have COPD I have to do something quickly - if I use my brains. First Ricky got it - really bad. Poor little guy, he has always had trouble like that but he is getting better. Then Davey who zipped thru it. Then me and now the little girl. I zipped to Urgent Care to get a handle on it - usually works. I seem to be doing better quickly but those things sure impact my breathing. My coughing is about gone - thank goodness as that really hurt.

Suppose to pick up Miss Mary today from her Gym and then take her to the Senior luncheon at the Bryant Street Baptist Church - always good. Not quite up to it but I will enjoy myself - always do. Missed it last month for some reason. Miss Mary is a hoot - She is going on 91, and somewhat disabled but NOTHING slows her down other than her walker. LOL. She is looking forward to it.

Have a good day everyone.

Re: Back to School at the Back Fence - September 2016

I DID pick up Miss Mary but we did not go to the luncheon. Before time to pick her up, Linda called to say there was NO luncheon this month, they have dinners in September. Well I did not know that so picked up Mary and we went out to eat and we both enjoyed ourselves. Drove her around showing her some things - she has little or no opportunity to do things like that - she really enjoyed herself. Worked out fine as we got home a good 1 1/2 hour earlier than we would have had we had the regular luncheon. Nothing wrong with that

The little one had a bad night - bless her. She developed a fever but it broke about 3 a.m. Even when she is sick she is still an angel compared to any child I have ever seen. Bless her little heart. She is still asleep but I keep checking her - she needs the rest.

Leaving some bagels - what else. Have a great day one and all. While it is cold right now yesterday got very hot again.
