Only once I had a repair person ask to use the bathroom..They were here for hours I have a half bath in my laundry room..So that was OK..never upstairs..I had one guy say he "watered" the trees in my woods..I thought that was disgusting.

Good thing he didn't fertilize them too!  🚽

Re: Awkward Situation Question

I let outside workers use the hall bathroom and keep cold water on hand for them too.

I cannot imagine telling a person if they need to use the bathroom to go a half mile to a service station or fast food restaurant.  You trust this person to work on your property but not to use your bathroom.  I find that odd and rude.

When I've been in this situation,  I've assumed ahead of time that a restroom might be needed and prepared for that, make sure there is chilled water (and even beer, at the end, if wanted) and some simple snacks.

Why not.  Seems like the simplest of things to do, to me, for the work being done.

Re: Awkward Situation Question

You say you have a man doing outside work.  If you are uncomfortable with this person using your bathroom he may not have been the right man for the job.  Next time choose a reputable vetted company with good reviews.  As for now, and given the choice you made to hire this man, i would not refuse his use of my bathroom.

As a general rule, of course I'd allow someone I'd contracted with to perform work around my place to use the bathroom, If I had bad vibes, the entity for which he or she worked was a complete unknown or I felt uncomfortable for some reason, I'd wait near the door until they finished and left. Expecting them to get in their vehicle and drive to a service station or fast food outlet seems extreme to me.

In the OP, it was noted 'we' refused. Were I not alone in the house I'd be even less likely to decline to permit a worker to use the bathroom. Of course, safety is important but this smacks of elitism,

You don’t have to send them down the street. They usually either schedule breaks or they just go on a break and go. Most would have this pre planned. @stevieb

We allow all our workers to use the bathroom in our basement.

I’m not sure the beer “at the end” is advisable. Especially if they want to keep their jobs.

Plus, I’d be careful if you have no idea what they consumed before that friendly beer.

They get into an accident, and you gave them that friendly beverage good luck. Liable comes to mind
