Re: April 2023 Bird's Nest

[ Edited ]

It's 81 degrees and breezy as I type.  Usually I complain about hot weather when it comes on too quick but since I know the temps are gonna dive this weekend, I'll allow it Woman Wink

I'm making the most of the good weather while I have it since, no joke, I am looking at a rain/snow mix this weekend.  Gotta love Michigan.  You guys know I had all of the trees/shrubs removed from the back fence in January.  It was cold out and I was lazy and didn't address the piles of what I call stump grinding yard waste when it was fresh and soft.  Well it packed in and there are large hills of this mess along the chain link fence and it will be in the way for the new fence.  I've been raking the dry layer each day, bagging it up and running it to the curb on trash pick up days - I did 6 bags last week and 8 bags this week (they picked up yesterday) and have filled 4 more today.

Actually they are not full full.  More like as heavy as a reasonable person could lift.  I'm hoisting them in a wheelbarrow and rolling them into the attached garage.

We had a lot of life happening in our Bird's Nest community so I didn't really talk about the fence project this year.  We had bigger and more serious events to navigate.  The fence company has been a royal PITA since last November.  I put more than 50% down on the contract which stipulated a spring installation.  I was called repeatedly about installing the fence since January and I kept saying no, it's too cold.

Whatever the society/agency is that dictates standards for concrete said concrete should be poured (when it's not an urgent kind of thing) when temps remain 40 degrees and above.  OMG at one point I gave them another $3,000 on the contract to leave me alone.  During the 3rd week of March the company who practically had me on speed dial managed to not call me to let me know the crew was coming to drop off supplies.  The only reason I knew they were there was the gate was locked and the crew couldn't slip in and drop the sh*t off in my backyard.

They were gonna pressure me into installing and let's just say they picked the wrong woman.  The owner called me and Jesus Mary and Joseph - I unloaded and I was not professional about it.

Now that the weather is consistently warmer at night I am trying to get all that stump grinding mess cleaned up.  Also found a row a bricks that I forgot about that were laid between fence posts, presumably to stop a dog from getting under the fence before my time.  I've been digging the bricks out and hauling stuff like Bessy the pack mule.

I'll probably call the owner tomorrow (I let time get away from me today) and suggest some dates in May.

Update: It actually got up to 91 today that set a new record, Too Hot, for me, but there isn't much I can do about it.

@Bird mama   What a huge project, reminds me of the year I had to remove the enormous almost 5' berm of dirt running quite a length in the yard from the remodeling of the kitchen.  Digging, raking, hauling, the hauling was left mostly to DH, but I did quite a bit of that also.

I hope the fence installation goes well.

Aw Geez @viva923  sorry you are having scary weather.  My time is coming tomorrow - we're expecting lots of rain and storms and then rain/snow on Monday.

I've been working like a mule in the backyard every day this week.  Since Wednesday I've bagged 18 bags of tree stump waste.  Father God - it feel unending Woman Very Happy  I was doing okay for the first couple of days.  Last night I had a hard time sleeping because my shoulders ached.  Today, after filling 7 bags, my insides ache.  Gonna take a hot soak with Dr. Teal's scented Epsoms Salts and give my body a break for like 5 days.  I don't have really much more to do to prep for the fence - I'm outta gas.

My fence installation is scheduled for May 1st.  I'm trying to get the tree company who cut everything down in January out here because once I started raking the stump griding waste I found a stump they forget to grind out.  They need to get that thing outta here before the fence guys arrive.  I can see how they missed it; the mulberry stump threw so much wood chips all over it covered the shrub.  They had some guys cutting and others stump grinding.  I hope we don't have a problem because I really don't wanna unload on the guy.
