Anybody listen to SiriusXM via Apple CarPlay?

Having SiriusXM is mandatory for me as I drive in crazy Nashville traffic. I'm looking at new cars and many do not have SiriusXM already built in...but they all have Apple CarPlay...and apparently SiriusXM can be accessed through Apple CarPlay. I'm just curious how easy it is to navigate channels on SiriusXM through Apple CarPlay....Anyone care to share your experience accessing and using SiriusXM via CarPlay in your vehicle?

@Goldengate8361   Most cars have the SiriusXM software already loaded in the car.  In fact, if you purchase a new car, a lot of dealers will throw in free XM for typically three months..  Car play is its own separate thing, as is XM.

Re: Anybody listen to SiriusXM via Apple CarPlay?

@Pezzie  I know, but many cars (the lesser expensive trims of certain cars) do not have SiriusXM built in. You must access it through Apple CarPlay if you want to listen to SiriusXM. I'm looking at the mazda cx50, for example. It's on higher end trims of this car, but not the two least expensive trims of the same car.

@Goldengate8361   Hmmm, I always had XM software preloaded so not sure about going through car play.  I will have to ask DH.  In the meantime I hope somebody else can help you out.

Re: Anybody listen to SiriusXM via Apple CarPlay?

SiriusXM® satellite radio isn’t available on all Mazda models. For example, SiriusXM® is only available on the CX-5 Grand Touring, Grand Touring Reserve, and Signature trim levels. The more basic CX-5 trim levels (Sport and Touring) don’t come with it. SiriusXM® is available only on the CX-3 Grand Touring trim level, as well. This is a conscious decision made by Mazda in an effort to get customers to spend more money on a hi...1.

I have had SiriusXM in my 2013 Equinox since I bought it new in 2013 but I am not familiar with apple car play. I don't have any problems with playing Siriusxm, love it !   I do pay a monthly fee.

if your new car has an aux cord capability OR it has bluetooth capability, you should be able to stream the siriusxm app through that and your car speakers using your smartphone.

@Goldengate8361   DH said to download the XM app to your phone and then you connect the phone to car play and access your XM that way.

@sunshine45 @Just as I thought.....but SiriusXM can be accessed through Apple CarPlay and Apple CarPlay is on all models. I just never used it and am curious about how easy it is to actually listen to SiriusXM "through" CarPlay.....

Re: Anybody listen to SiriusXM via Apple CarPlay?

Yes, @Goldengate8361 I have Sirius and I have apple CarPlay.  Even though I usually just listen to Sirius via my radio, there are times when I'm listening to something on my Sirius app and have to leave so I just continue listening through the app on my phone.

It's not hard to use the Carplay. You will need to download and activate the Sirius app on your phone and either pair with Bluetooth to your car or plug in a usb cord.  It's pretty user friendly once you get the app.

On the plus side, you can use the app on your phone to listen even when you're not in the car.  I use it in my office.

I hope that helps.
