The first time I did my own taxes I bought Turbo Tax software. But I didn't like that the info was all on my HD; didn't want it there. After that, for about 8 years I filed online, on the tax company's site. I used On-Line Taxes, or OLTdotcom. They were fast, EZ and as cheap as anyone else. I didn't claim deductions, but they would have had that covered as well if I'd wanted to.
Don't know if they still do it, but probably - the IRS had/has a list of online tax preparers they approve of. My first time, I just did eeny meeny, chose OLT and was happy with them.

I've used Turbo Tax forever, too. I wasn't aware it had bad reviews.
I love it, but my taxes are simple. One job forever, one house forever. No other life changes forever.

I also have used Turbo Tax for years.
I believe the bad reviews were from last year (? year before?) when they changed the software and increased the price to use certain forms. I think they improved it this year, after thousands of complaints. (of course, I could be wrong. I buy from amazon.com and am basing my comment on reviews read there.)

I used H & R Block online with review for a few years, now I have an accountant do it, it costs us $300 but it is so worth the price

@Hooty wrote:@cuddlesmama, not a CPA, but have worked for H&R Block in the past as a tax preparer, and I use their program. Never had a problem, already done our federal and received my refund last week! It is very user friendly, IMO!
Not a CPA either but I too like H&R Block - it is slightly cheaper and I find it more user friendly and have used that forever.
