It happened in Santa Fe, Texas. Details are sketchy but how much longer will we put up with these horrors? Will lawmakers do something only if their own family members are victims?

Oh no, not again.
Lawmakers apparently aren't interested enough to do anything. If they were, something would have already been done.
I pray for these children and the faculty. Please, No More.

All the laws in the world won't keep a bad person from getting a gun if they really want to. And horribly, many "adults" in this country do NOT keep their weapons under lock and key.

I feel any relief from these terrible tragedies is far from being up to law makers. It is more than laws that created these tragedies, it is more, in my opinion, the changes in our cultures and a societal issue.
Laws are written and passed and from there, what else can law makers do to lessen these tragic events? I won't go into any more and turn this thread into a "we should/we shouldn't" debate. That is what our Law Makers seem to do, and how far has that gone to change anything?
Parents are responsible for their minor children regardless of their life's circumstances. Choose to have children? It is a 2 parent responsibilty(in most cases). Not a parent, but I have seen and lived, lots of actual real life, from growing up in Public Housing Projects until age 14, and what happened to many of my fatherless friends when they became adults.
I know what the familiar drumbeat will be, and wish to high the high heavens, a solution were so simple as writing and/or changing laws. For myself as a realist, I know the reasons are much deeper and more complicated than anything simplistic.

Holding the people responsibile for these crimes, not giving them the attention they crave & ending the non stop coverage that inspires others to copycat is the answer....shifting blame, passing additional laws, holding law abiding gun owners & the NRA is not.

We already have too many laws. Evil doers disregard laws, they obtain illegal drugs easily and weapons are just as easily obtained.
The obvious solution is security, metal detectors, monitored cameras...
