DH found this immaculate Air Stream Travel trailer on Craig's List. She only wanted $1,000 because her husband had died and it brought up bad memories. Craig's List has given me grief in the past so I cautiously investigated this for him. Bottom line is they wanted Ebay gift cards for payment. Never listed inspection address of the shipping company, nothing. I told them this was a scam listing and I had a football game to watch. I hate Craig's List, we have had excellent results with Ebay both buying and selling and will deal with them directly.

That's one stupid scammer! No one who has the slightest bit of real interest in an Airstream could fall for that storty at that price or even at 5X it. Too good to be true on any website!

Oh, good grief. There was nothing to investigate. That $1000 was enough for anyone to immediately know its a scam. No doubt about it, you didn't have to go beyond $1000. And it was a brain dead dumb scam.

I see many late model used cars at ridiculously low prices on Facebook too. Figured scam.

Actually, I think the dead giveaway it was a scam wasn't just the silly low price for an Airstream, it was the expectation of being paid in "eBay gift cards"! Who sells things for that type of "currency".
Who expects to sell on Craigslist and use the proceeds buy via gift cards on eBay? As soon as someone wants a very odd form of payment, it's easy to get very wary.

Even a junky "for parts only" RV sells more than $1000.
I wouldn't have even contacted anyone about this ad. To me, it's obviously a scam.
Someone was looking for a sucker who wouldn't mind scamming a widow thinking they could get an airstream for $1000.

That ad was a no brainer.
The ones that get me are the ads for a car, truck or camper in Texas with the ad in Alabama, for example. Aren't there buyers in Texas?
And it's usually posted by a widow or a guy about to go into the military. As long as people fall for it, the ads will continue

I followed through on this ad more out of curiosity than anything else. The fact the ad said this Air Stream is still available and it was a one hour listing on Craig's List was my first clue. This was another case of living in Minnesota and advertisng in Chicago, a much bigger market. DH has a buddy who has had good luck with Craig's List and swears by it. I once gave my email to a guy selling a tractor at DH's insistence. I still can find obscene emails in my spam file because of this jerk He just sold the names to several sites. .
