Not a fan of animals anywhere there is food being served inside or oustside---but way better than being in a hot car too.

I like dogs and I think they can be funny and great companions but, personally, I don't think dogs belong in stores, specifically grocery stores.  A service animal is different.  Usually they wear a vest identifying them as such and have been trained in how to act in public.

I understand that people think of their pets as their children and love them but in the end they are still animals.  I do commend and appreciate people who I've seen lay down blankets in the cart and place their pups on the blanket.  :-)

@Luvsmyfam   I have two dogs who shed a lot.  I have waist length hair myself.

I never have hair in my food.  I keep my hair pulled up when cooking.  My dogs are allowed in the kitchen....they eat there too.

Much drama about nothing.  What do you expect people to do if they have a disability and need a guide dog to get around?  Starve?

There is the probability of getting a human hair in your food more so than a dog hair in a restaurant.

I have only seen a dog in a restaurant a few times, and never had a dog hair in my food.

BTW, I am a licensed hair dresser.  I have had human hair all over me for years. It sticks to everything.  I have even had hair splinters.  I am still alive and kicking.

@Carmie I have had more than 1 complaint about dog hairs flying around in the dining area of a restraurant, so I know what I'm talking about. I would never allow a pet to eat In the kitchen ever

What do you think?  A friend of ours owns a convenience store and recently a customer walked in with a very large dog.  The sales girls told him the dog could not come in....but did ask first if it was a service dog.  According to the dog owner, he did not have to answer as it was a hippa violation.

The guy was filming every moment...the owner came out of his office and long story short, he called the police...

My friend will find out from his lawyer who is in the right according to the law.

I was just curious to what others thought.

By the sounds of it, it looks like to me that the guy who was already filming anctipated a confrontation or perhaps wanted to get one going.  I've been seeing more and more dogs in stores.  The little dogs are in the shopping carts so I don't think they're service animals.

In my state service dogs are allowed in any public accomodations areas as long as they are wearing the special vest or have some type of special ID. I have only seen them in grocery and drug stores though.

@Estellee   The ADA allows all service dogs without vests or paperwork or ID with them to go anywhere people are allowed.

Every state must follow this with no exceptions.

There are rules though.  Dogs must be under control, well behaved, leashed or harnessed or obey hand signals or voice commands.

If they do any damage, the business can bill the owner.

A business can be fined for not allowing service dogs. They do not have a choice.  They must comply.

I am a huge animal lover but I think they should be left at home unless it's a service animal.

Several years ago, I was at the beach and I saw an ad for one of my favorite restaurants that said dogs were welcome.  I don't recall this restaurant having an outdoor patio for eating so I'm thinking  the dogs would have  been inside with all the patrons.  I opted not to go there during my time at the beach. I'm sure it would have been fine but I was envisioning two dogs deciding they didn't like each other and there would end up being a big dog fight with fur flying, etc.

@Carmie I guess my question would be how do people know if they are service dogs without wearing some type of identity? Just curious Woman Happy
