Re: Analytical Question - What does this mean?

  • @Anonymous032819  ..... I think you and @x Hedge  "hit the nail on the head". I don't think the original poster is seeing all the sides to the situation but their own and is looking for support for how they feel. Bottom line is "upper management" did what was asked and talked to the other two employees and deemed the poster's problem could wait until another problem was handled. After reading the posts the only one I am finding disrespectful and inconsiderate is the original poster.

Sometimes i feel as if we are reading two different Posts.

At first @RinaRina said she asked the Person if she could see the other two employees first. How about that? You had your chance and you gave it up. Maybe the person was a little mad that you did that and decided that you can wait. Maybe not.

Iv´e been to my Doctor´s office and he had an emergency at the hospital. Should he say ¨Tell her not to push, I´ll be right there until I see this patient in my office´? No.

There are all kinds of emergencies and some more important that others.

Yes, I have always heard that been late is being disrespectful.

But that´s coming from a person who´s always on time. Got that from my Dad.

Also it made it seem as if what you had to say wasn´t that important because you asked to go last.

See, now IMO I think you are reading things into posts that just are not there. Of course I didn't mention it, but you just assumed the doc was responding to an emergency. You have no idea why my doc was on her cell phone when she was supposed to be treating me. I can tell you she was talking to her husband about something that she was going to take care of on her way home. The doc was embarrassed, but she took the call anyway. Disrespectful. I may be wrong, but I think Rina Rina wanted her coworkers to go first for  a reason and she was being proactive. I really don't think that should matter though, her boss should have had a better grasp on the situation. It's been my experience that whenever people defend the bosses or management, they are usually management types themselves or wannabies.

@blackhole99  ... I was not management nor a wannabe. Just respectful to other employees and open minded enough to consider all views and opinions. Only the original poster knows why they wanted the other employees to talk to "upper management" first. Proactive? Or to help their cause.

@blackhole99 ... Your comment ..... "whenever people defend the bosses or management they are usually management types themselves or wannabes" . I am defending the original poster's management thus my response of not being management or a management wannabe . I think it  is pretty clear why responded.

@blackhole99  .... No I am an extremely passive person. I will defend myself or someone I think is being mistreated unjustly.

I was watching a Netflix movie about the history of unions & the mafia ("The Irishman").  There's a part in the movie where Jimmy Hoffa (Al Pacino) says to Sheeran (Robert DeNiro), "if someone is late for a meeting, then, they don't respect you."

THAT BOTHERED ME because I had a meeting scheduled (at an unspecified time) with an upper level manager on Tuesday about something that happened on the job.  I suggested she meet with the other two people first and then meet with me and she complied. It was already late ... close to 5:45 PM.

At 6:15PM, I ran into her in the hall and asked if "now is okay".

She said "no" because she'd just finished up with the first "two people", but had to meet with another team because they had an emergency with another team member.  (That team member had already told me earlier (in confidence) she was turning in her "notice".)

I did NOT want to stay after 6:30 PM, so, I said, "okay we can talk tomorrow".

She said she couldn't because she was going out of town for Thanksgiving.

I said, "okay, then, I'll see you when you get back."

I thought I was being nice .. and agreeable.  THEN I SAW THE MOVIE and that line stuck with me.  Woman Frustrated

The movies portray the mob’s rituals to make viewers think they are seeing how real mobsters act. In the Hoffa movie, Pacino is talking about a common theme that mob movies depict. This idea is that the mob is big on RESPECT. Different mobsters are commonly portrayed explaing how they view respect and what respect means to other particular characters or to the organization they belong to. It’s all about stereotyping the mob and it’s behaviors.

In the Hoffa movie, Pacino is saying something about lateness that is a commonly held view. Some people think that if a person is late it is inconsiderate and inconveniences others. Some of these people also think if someone is late they must not respect those left waiting for them.

As for you. You were being nice and agreeable. The manager wasn’t viewing you as late. The circumstances prevented you from meeting, You did nothing wrong. Unless your intuition is sensing something, I wouldn’t read anything into what happened.
