Re: An Interesting Book About Marriage

I think part of the problem (especially today) is people don't really get to know who they are marrying. Sex, to them, masks itself as love. I think, many times, that's where it starts.

There is no perfect marriage because there are no perfect people. You have to work at it.

If you happen to be married to someone who is abusive, whether physically or emotionally, it is my opinion, that one should separate and get counseling first. If the partner is willing....good....if not, I believe considering divorce, in that case, is an option.

@Imaoldhippiewrote:

.................Surely you must know that House Hunters is scripted?

@Imaoldhippie

Since this is a show I DVR regularly! Give me, in details, some factual info backing up this statement. Not from media of any type/source, but from someone(s) involved in the production, and airing of those episodes(with season and episode number).

If unable to do so? Let's just say what it might really be: "your opinion", eh?

@hckynutjohnI posted earlier that I was on a message board years ago where some of the people on the show posted. They said they already had purchased the home and the show threw in two others. They just pretended. As I said, this was years ago and maybe the ones who said they were on the show lied. I didn't think so as there was no reason to. Just stating what I came across years ago about this show.

@proudlyfromNJ

Thank you for your info. From watching many episodes of this show, and the couples(or more) involved! I cannot imagine how any person, in the position of being a script writer, could possibly write such off the cuff scripts.

I can't imagine even the best actors(either gender) being able to pull off this type of acting. I have seen the greatest in the acting business, and on low budget(in hollywood comparison)shows such as this? Too many off the cuff comments for me to ever believe anyone could follow any type of script.

What would be the point? Now shows like Bachelor or Bachelorette? What little I have seen of those types of shows(?) are as phony as me living on 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Thanks again for the info you provided. My wife and I will still discuss and enjoy these shows. Having my sister, who was in Real Estate, including being a Broker, for over 40 years! The stories she has told me about buyers, pretty well match up with the(unscripted) buyers she has met over those decades.

ETA: Can't space between paragraphs, why???

I see it as you do, but didn't want to challenge the poster who scoffed. Those people aren't actors. There is no way they could deliver lines convincingly. Added to that, the writers would have to spend considerable time with them to capture their personalities and speech patterns. Some are likable, others not. Do you and your wife often think they chose the wrong house or apartment? I do.

Hi John. Now remember I said this was many years ago that I read that message board. What anyone believes or doesn't is fine with me.

@occasionalrain

That show is our "go to" late at night when we want to watch only a 30 minute show. Saw a couple recently that were an hour(we DVR all), and deleted them.

My wife and I generally agree on which house we "think" they should choose. However, at best, I would say we are way under 50% when it comes which one they choose.

I generally pick the one that appears to be the one making most of the decision in the relationship. Doesn't take long to figure out who needs to please whom. But that many times doesn't seem to jibe with the decision they end up making.

My wife and I spend a lot of the time with the DVR on pause, while we discuss certain things, happening at that point of the show. So a 30 minute show ends up being more like a 45 minute show. Many shows we agree that "how will this couple last together"!

Hope the show continues in the future.
