What age is considered old age now?

I don't feel old but I'm told I am in old age.

I think 50 when people get their AARP card is the start for senior discounts.

I'll be 74 in a couple of months...

I guess it depends on one's mentality, vitality and outlook on life (?)

In my mind, "old age" means using canes, walkers, rollators and taking several different prescription medicines.

No offense to those who depend on the above-mentioned items, but that's just how I perceive old age.

So far, I'm not there yet. Smiley Wink

My next door neighbor is 96 and still drives and shops!

It’s not about numbers, it’s how You feel. 😉

AND I think as You grow older it’s normal to push back the age at which You consider someone “ Old”.

To me, old is after 65.  You can't deny the numbers.  If you are blessed with good health and friends and family, don't dwell on the numbers.  Count every blessing you have, and hope that when your time comes you are at peace.  If you are too worried about how you look, you'll not enjoy your later years.

But that doesn't mean that they aren't old.

I hate to pick a number.  I will be turning 72 in a few days and dh will be 84 shortly.  We are as independent as we ever were.  Do all our own house and yard work(16 acres), maintenance, garden, pool, etc.  We are blessed when I look around at others, many much younger, who can barely get around.

We stay busy doing things for ourselves, our church and volunteering.

'Old age' is not just one number but it spans a number of years starting at 65 and goes up from there.

  • Young-old: 65 to 74 years old
  • Middle-old: 75 to 84 years old
  • Oldest-old (or late elderly): 85 years old and older
