today, starts my extra long hours of both jobs.a coworker is on vacation, until next tues,Tues, I am picking up her hrs as well as my own.very irritating when other employee won't step up to the plate and help out.maybe my boss will remember this come time for raises.

If your boss is like my sister's boss, you'll get no raise. She hasn't had one in over 10 years. She's been there over 20 years and still only gets 2 weeks vacation. In all that time she has never taken a full week off because there is no one else there to cover for her as he won't hire anyone else. He whines whenever she wants to take a day off and then calls her several times about silly stuff he should know if she does take that day off. She has to work but hard to find a new job when you are 75.

I feel for you. I did that countless times. It takes a toll on the body and mind, especially when no one else will help.

From reading your posts @Luvsmyfam , you have a really good work ethic. I hope your supervisor appreciates your talent and dedication to the job.

As I watch quite a few of my neighbors work either full time or at least some days every week at home, I understand more and more why lots of workers who can are choosing careers that give them more choices of where and when they work.

Hang in there!! I have been there-- long hours, covering others, so I can understand. Hope you find a way to enjoy your time or give yourself a treat at the end.

@Luvsmyfam I remember a similar post when you did this and hoped your boss would remember. You need to keep records of this and *you* need to remind the boss about these times when it's review or raise time.
Don't EVER depend on a boss to remember this stuff. They very conveniently 'forget'. You need to be very pro-active so you are compensated for your hard work.

What a difference a week makes, eh! About a week ago you were bored, and now "very irritating", from a long work week. There is a middle ground.

It sounds like you volunteered for all those extra hours. No. Your boss is not going to consider those extra hours when he or she does your review. The work will get done this week, you'll be paid for the extra time. Your boss won't think beyond that. You shouldn't be irritated with your coworkers. It's 2023, not 1963. They are only responsible for working their own hours. They aren't responsible for working extra hours to cover for coworkers. When I was a supervisor, I often worked 50 or 55 hours a week to cover for staff who were on vacation or out sick. I'd offer overtime or comp time but it was rare that anyone wanted it.
