28yrs later- Still-vivid Memory- Princess Diana's Passing

[ Edited ]

Has it been this long ago?

Still seems so memorably fresh to me.

"The tragic death of Diana, Princess of Wales occurred on Sunday 31 August 1997 following a car accident in Paris, France.

The vehicle in which The Princess was travelling was involved in a high-speed accident in the Place de l'Alma underpass in central Paris shortly before midnight on Saturday 30 August."  (ref:  Google)

"The world was gripped with sorrow 28 years ago when Princess Diana’s life was cut short in a devastating car crash in Paris on Aug. 31, 1997.

Just 36 years old, the beloved royal was a devoted mother to Prince William, then 15, and Prince Harry, then 12, and had recently begun a new relationship with Dodi Fayed, the son of Harrods department store owner, Mohamed Al-Fayed.

That summer, Diana and Dodi had been enjoying time together in France, seemingly on the cusp of a new chapter. But in the early hours of Aug. 31, their car was being pursued by paparazzi when it collided with a support column inside Paris' Pont de l’Alma tunnel.

The impact killed Dodi and the driver instantly. Medical workers fought to save Diana, but despite hours of effort, she was pronounced dead at around 4 a.m.

Since then, Diana has continued to be remembered by her family and the public. The late royal has also been memorialized in pop culture. Netflix's The Crown depicted Diana's life when she entered the spotlight and how she changed different parts of the world."  (ref: People  (by way of: Google search)

@JoyFilled Warrior - Thank you for posting this memorial tribute.

I think we all remember where we were. I think it was a Saturday night, and I was washing dishes. DH came in and told me to turn the TV on. I could see it from the kitchen. I did, and I couldn't believe it. It seemed like a nightmare.

Re: 28yrs later- Still-vivid Memory- Princess Diana's Passing

Had just gotten home from buying a car.  When they didn't say she was ok after a little while I told hubby "She's dead."  Just had that feeling.

It seems like a million years ago to me.  So much has happened in my life since then.

Princess Diana was kind, empathetic, courageous, brilliant and loved her boys deeply. She was truly the epitome of royalty.

I remember that dark night well...

She will live on in the minds and hearts of those of us who remember her and cherish her memory.

I remember that terrible Saturday night. I stayed up all night watching the news reports. When the report came in that she had died I cried and cried thinking of her two sons who were so young. Harry was just a child.

My friend and I were at a restaurant and ordered a plate of 20 jalapeño poppers. A few minutes later, on the TV, we see a headline that Princess Diana died. We couldn't believe it. My friend and I even asked our waitress if it's true. Once our appetizers came, we were not hungry anymore.

I knew she was in a car accident earlier that day but had no idea she died. My friend's then- boyfriend is from England and hit him especially hard. When we were in my friend's car, we had news radio on for details. So sad.

I remember the incident. At first, I couldn't believe it.

She was LADY Diana Spencer as she had her title stripped and was no longer Princess.
