Can someone clarify the soda pop added to cake mix recipe?

Someone mentioned they added ginger ale or other kinds of soda pop to cake mix and it came out really moist- but how much, and is that in addition to the rest of regular ingredients? TIA!

I have made a chocolate cake with reg. Coke and added two egg whites. Another time I made a chocolate cake adding just diet coke and forgot to add the two egg whites and it did not rise as a cake should. Looked more like a brownie/cake. It was ok. I would suggest the reg. Coke and two egg whites -that one was very good!
