I have been having stomach issues and my doctor recommended that I go dairy free for several weeks to see if it alleviates my symptoms. I do eat cheese, skim milk, yogurt, cottage cheese. Now I am off these for the last 24 hours. I am using almond milk and coconut creamer for my coffee. I am also reading labels. Any tips for me?

Be aware that many meds contain lactose as a filler. Most people aren't that negatively affected, but some are. Also, sugar can be a big problem with stomach issues. Even fruit can be bad. Google Low-FMOP diet. I'm severely lactose intolerant. Even the lactaid pills don't help me. All you can do is read labels and avoid.

Re: Lactose Free Eating

If lactose is your problem....

Try Green Valley Organics Lactose Free Products (Sour cream and Yogurt)

Also Fairlife Milk

They taste so good, I don't miss the lactose!

I use Digestive Advantage - Lactose Defense Formula for my lactose problem.  Been suffering with it for over 30 years.  The pills do help with some degree but not entirely.  I have pizza now and then and always make sure I have my pills with me.  If I can't find the pills in the store I order from Amazon - works for me at this time.  Hate giving up cheese etc. but it's worth not having the pain.  Any feedback is helpful.

"Any tips for me?"

STAY STRONG.

Milk & milk byproducts are highly addictive due to the casein.

You might have withdrawal symptoms....not just from the

casein, but also the large amounts of fat & sodium

most dairy products have.

There are so many plant-based subsitutues for dairy.

Milk?  Every grocery, large/small, carries a PB milk of some sort.

Cheese?  Daiya brand is good for melting & sandwiches.

Yogurt?  Lots of different PB options...or make your own soy yogurt.

I can guarantee if after several weeks w/out dairy,

the first time you re-introduce it, it'll taste so thick & mucus'y

in your throat.  But if you keep disguising the ills of dairy

(which you have since you have stomach issues)

w/ pills & special dairy products, keep asking yourself,

'Why do I want to keep entertaining something which hurts me

or might hurt me in other ways?'

Your body is physically trying to tell you it does not want dairy.

Honor that sign.

MariLu Henner used to write a lot on this subject, I'm certain she has recipes on line too.

Timely you should mention Marilu Henner.

Dr. Neal Barnard has a new book out, 'The Cheese Trap'

and Marilu Henner wrote a 4-page forward to this book.

She highly commends the Dr. & his recommendations.

Hi!  Daiya cheese is aweosme!  They also make pizzas, macarroni & cheese along with shredded cheese.  Follow Your Heart also makes cheese, I have heard it is good & I do like thir parmesean cheese!  I did not care for the sour cream though.  If you like ice cream, the brand Nada Moo is aaaaaaaamazing!  I highly recommend it!  I have been plant based for about 7 years, please let me know if I can help Smiley Surprised)  XOXO
