I saw Picnic when it came out.  I was very young and didn't see at that time the many messages of the movie, I just knew I loved Picnic.  Of course over the years I understood each character and that fifties culture where a Miss Sidney had such a desire to marry.  Rosalind was so good in that move,, she out shone the other cast members although all were excellent. 

 

Your comments are very well stated and exactly how I felt when I understood Miss Sidney's character.
