Pleated Totes

I am looking for a large bag that I can use as a purse. The pleated totes look big, but I'm concerned about the strap drop length. Is the tote comfortable to carry on the shoulder? I teach school and I want a large bag that I can carry over my shoulder as a purse. What are the pros and cons of the pleated totes.
