I have a tanzanite ring, and I was told by the jeweler that this stone is softer than other gemstones. I don't wear my ring every day. 

I've had my ring about twenty five years and it's still one of my favorites.

I love tanzanite and have several rings so I checked out tanzanite hardness and info from the gia says it is a moderately soft stone and not best for everyday wear.  Mohs  scale of 6 to 7.  Jeff mentioned in the presentation of the 3 ct tsv ring that diamonds in a halo around the main stone serve as a protection for the tanzanite stone.  Hope so but definitely don't wear my rings every day.
