I am making Split Pea w/ham soup tomorrow. Any suggestions?

I will be soaking my peas overnight and looked up a few recipes and they all seem very similiar with the ham hock etc. Just thought if anyone had any suggestions outside of the regular recipe I would love to hear it.

Don't know why but all week long i have been craving it. never made it but am a good cook so I have the skills.
