O/T: Camera Rec's For Taking Close-up Pics of Jewelry

I need recommedations for a digital camera that takes decent close-up pictures of jewelry. My little point-n-shoot takes great pics of mountain vistas but lousy pics of jewelry.

I'm a novice photographer and don't know where to start in terms of camera make/model/features I should look for.

Help?!
