Dyson portable problem: plastic tab on top breaks easily when removing filter

Love my portable Dyson and use it daily. However, last week when I was unlatching the plastic tab on top in order to remove and rinse out the filter, a small tooth on its underside snapped off. When I called customer service I got a nasty surprise: it would cost just under $ 40 to replace it because the turbo part had to be replaced !!! When I complained that this was a dumb way to manufacture the machine -- I.e., using plastic, I was told this would save " WEIGHT " !!! Really, it's just a little tab !!!! The rep then noticed I had a little more time on my warranty and it would be sent out free. When it came (quickly), there were no instructions on how to detach the one part and then attach the new part. I can't believe this is the situation for a machine that costs so much money. Is QVC aware of this ???????
