Sparkling top with black satin-ish skirt or black satin-ish pants, or any nice not-too-tight black pants, maybe one of SG's straight leg pants.  

 

Sometimes 'Less is more', so to speak.

Depends where you live.  New York would be different than here. Take a clue from what the hostess says she's wearing.

A pretty, sparkly top, or beautiful dressy cashmere or furry type sweater, perhaps with a satin or some kind of dressy long skirt and high boots, heels.

 

Same above type top with beautiful trousers.

 

A pretty sweater dress and boots, great jewelry.

 

Wish I had the same! We're just going to dinner. Christmas was so busy, I never got my "sparkly dress" hemmed in time...sigh.

 

Not sure what the heck I'm wearing tonight....I wish I had the top suggestion myself!
