They use a tape on inside of strips that is similar to rubber cement. Sometimes in desparate situations they use surgical adhesive. But there is a cloth tape they stick to inside panels. You et in the dress, and they peel the tape off and set the straps of neckline. It doesn't have the allergies surgical adhesive has, and it makes the material lay close to the skin and stay in place without looking glued on.
They use this for a lot of outfits, not just bandage dresses.. My grandaughter is in the business and they have used it for straps, and to get a back cut out to lie flat.. It adheres to the skin without actually sticking to the skin.
