Porting Number back on your Phone - Help!!!!!

Since I received my Samsung Tracfone yesterday, in order to try it, I have to port my Verizon phone number over to this phone and then they will give me my 1500 minutes. I called Verizon and they told me that if I decide I do not like the Tracfone, they will port my number back to my Veriizon phone. Is this true???? Help me before I do something that I will regret! Thanks.
