Re: What's in your life that was well worth the wait?

[ Edited ]

Without a doubt, my precious second husband.  When I first heard "Bless the Broken Road" by Rascal Flatts, something clicked for me.  All that I had gone through was meant to ensure that I would recognize his prized virtues of a kind and decent nature and a heart of gold.

He was well worth the wait!  We did not have even three decades together, but I feel he is with me still.  I'll love him until the day I die.

"This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you."

My husband, beyond a doubt.

Edited to add that I just asked this question of him and he answered with "a paid off mortgage." Wonder if I need to reconsider my answer.

Retirement!  I worked until I was 68 to increase my Social Security, pension and 401(k) .... really, really. really worth the extra years of work.

Enjoyed reading your answers. Here's my practical answers:

  • Thrilled I didn't give up on marriage when we were young and selfish. Celebrated 39 years this month
  • Waited until 29 for first child. Questioned whether motherhood was for me before this time
  • Career and children were my excuses to delay graduate degree. Plan was to go back to college at age 30, after husband completed his personal goals. I thought I'd be overwhelmed with career, kids, household and I gave up on my goals. The year my youngest graduated from high school, began my grad degree while working full time.
  • Looking at retirement down the road. Pension, SS, investments -- glad I made the sacrifices
