Wedding guest

I would like to get all of you girls opinion on something. I have been invited to a wedding in December.The wedding is 12 hours from my home. Hubby and I are driving and we took a few extra days to take in some sights. The bride is a friends daughter and I haven't seen her in 16 years. I just received an e-mail from my friend saying ,she is so glad that we are coming into town early"So I can help get things ready".I wasn't expecting to cook & set up things . This type of thing has happened to me once before,I was invited to a wedding and when I arrived I was asked to video tape since I had my camera with me. Then they later complained about the quality of the tape! We have to drive home the day after the wedding to get back to work,so we just want to be guest at the wedding. How would you ladies handle this.
