I helped out at a 1st grade school party yesterday. The parent that organized it paid for it herself, so that is good. The budget was $44-$2 per child. She spent well over $175 (her own money).
I think it bothers me that it bothers me. (yes, I shouldn't be concerned about it)
The kids don't care how much you spend. They are just happy to be doing something fun and different for the afternoon.
There were 3 crafts that each cost well over the budget alone. Food, drinks, more food, games and room decorations. Even the napkins and plates were the fancy valentine ones not the super budget bargain brands. At each station the kids got gifts and loaded them into their gift bag.
I've been around school parties for many years and I've never seen one like this. I feel bad for the parents in the coming years that will have to live up to this party.
