I am sitting here with tears pouring out of my eyes. They are having a news conference right now........Craig Michael Wood is the suspect in custody.........long grey hair and beard. Very mean looking.

They area saying that they had a lot to go on to find this man.....and it has a lot to do with the evidence they collected and the neighbors with what they said.....some of the neighbors even ran after the truck...... They are saying they had a call about 5:00 when she went missing. They had to get all the information together and go to the state to get the Amber Alert out there.....they moved as fast as they could on this. They just said they had received 40 calls within a short amount of time. They got a search warrant to go through his residence at about 2:15 am....... Am having a hard time hearing this news conference (sound).....and I think he said they found her little body there.

Oh I can hardly type right now.....will be back.

I have been following this story and my heart is broken that this poor little angel is gone. The sicko is supposedly a coach (maybe a teacher) at the Springfield Public Schools. Makes you wonder why type of people are working in our schools.

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- "...A grade school coach has been jailed on suspicion of first-degree murder in the abduction and death of a 10-year-old girl in southwest Missouri, police said Wednesday.

A body believed to be that of Hailey Owens was found Wednesday at a Springfield home owned by the suspect, Police Chief Paul Williams said at a news conference. Official confirmation won't occur until after an autopsy, but the chief said police "have a high degree of confidence" in the preliminary identification.

Police say Craig Michael Wood, 45, is jailed on suspicion of first-degree murder but formal charges have not been filed. The Greene County prosecutor is reviewing the case.

Hailey was walking to a friend's home in Springfield just before 5 p.m. Tuesday. Witnesses told investigators that a man in a gold, 2008 Ford Ranger drove down the street several times before abducting the child.

Wood was arrested late Tuesday inside a vehicle parked outside his small single-story home.

The Springfield School District said Wood is a coach and teacher's aide who supervises in-school suspensions at a school for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Hailey did not attend that school, and Williams said the two apparently didn't know each other.

"There's no connection that we've been able to determine at this time between the victim and the suspect," he said.

Williams said police have no idea of a motive for the killing. He said the suspect has not talked to investigators since his arrest.

The suspect's father, Jim Wood of Ash Grove, Mo., told The Associated Press that the girl's disappearance was "a tragedy" but declined further comment.

About 30 Springfield police investigators along with an FBI evidence response team searched the area near Wood's home Wednesday morning, as well as a nearby coin-operated laundry.

A records search shows Wood had little criminal history. He pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance in 1990 in Greene County and was fined $100.

Springfield School District Superintendent Norm Ridder said in a statement Wednesday that Wood began working for the district in August 1998. He is a paraprofessional and coach at Pleasant View K-8 School. Ridder said Wood has been suspended since his arrest.

Hailey did not attend the school where Wood worked. She was a student at Westport Elementary School this year, and was at Bowerman Elementary School last year. Springfield, with 162,000 residents, is Missouri's third-largest city.

"Student and staff at three of our schools are coping with this situation," Ridder said. Additional counselors and police were on hand at all three schools..."

Praying for Hailey and her family. This news is just horrible. {#emotions_dlg.crying}

I wish those people who saw him driving up and down the road . . . with a young child walking alone nearby . . . would have come out onto the sidewalk and walked near the child or called out to the child to save her . . . or called police or something. See something fishy, do something. If you can. Poor baby.

I'll say this......Springfield has one darn good police force......and they didn't waste any time on this abduction and apprehending the killer.

My heart is aching for her parents and family, and friends. This innocent little girl was walking to a friends house......this occurrence happened a block or 2 away from her home. Thank God there were some very observant people that saw what was happening and were able to assist the police in finding this killer. And to think this horrible person was working in the public school system....... They say he is not talking to anyone......wonder why (no) Hope he sleeps well tonight (not)...... Wouldn't want to be his defense attorney....would find that a very difficult task to handle. Oh, we will probably hear something about his childhood and how unhappy he was growing up......same old story. And his dad didn't have much to say.....wonder why (not).......

I haven't heard whether or not there are any other children in that family. If there are, can't imagine how they are coping with this.......much less her parents. Have no idea what condition her precious body was found in or how he killed her.....

This whole thing is just so so sad.
