African-American Hair: Can someone help me, please?

Hi ladies, I'm usually in the Fashion and Food Forums, but have a question I'm hoping someone here can help me with.

I send care packages to the military, and especially enjoy preparing the ones for the ladies. In addition to the basics (which are hard for them to get), I also send some fun stuff. I have an African-American young lady, and she needs hair products, but I'm at a loss as to what! I looked at the hair aisle in Walmart, and all those things are totally confusing to me. Hair grease???? What the heck is that? {#emotions_dlg.ohmy}

Will someone please be kind enough to tell me what the basic needs are? Bear in mind, these girls aren't styling their hair; they just need to keep it clean and in good condition. Thanks!
