And leave the rest of the thread alone?
Certain posters know that all they have to do to in order to get a thread pulled is take it political (talk about congress, voters, etc. etc.). At times, it is a deliberate posting(s) to accomplish having the thread taken down, rather than a natural outgrowth of the discussion.

I agree, Scottie. It's one of those things posters have requested before. If they intend to keep the forums, they need to properly train and adequately staff the moderation team and begin doing a more professional job. An entire thread need not be sacrificed simply because a few posters decided to transform it into a political (or personal) war zone.

I think the issue is that simply removing posts can become impractical. We have all see pages and pages of responses with posters quoting others. In some cases, it would take forever to manually go through removing the offending quotes, as people continue to respond ad the moderator's other work gets delayed. In most cases, it is simply neither feasible nor expedient to do as you suggest.

How often do you start reading a thread--because you're interested in it, and it gets taken way off base by a few people?
I agree that those doing the act of sabotage should be poofed, and that the rest of the thread should be left intact.

You have the option to click on the "Report Inappropriate" button any time you begin reading a post that you don't care for, and the moderator will review it to see if it has merit in being removed or allowed to stay.
It is entirely up to them to determine it's life span on these threads. That is their job only. A poster can take a thread in any direction wanted, but if and until it crosses any of the community standards, it will remain until a moderator determines it has merit in being removed or allowed to stay.

I don't have an issue with removing inappropriate postings. But postings that are appropriate should remain.

They probably don't have the time to cherry pick the entire thread. Really, if people would act like adults this wouldn't be an issue.

That doesn't explain removing whole threads.

I'm sure that's true but there ARE times when it could easily be done.
