Tomorrow I'm going to be receiving a pain shot--epidural, to be exact. If it works on the pain I've had for the last 2-3 years I'll be very glad, but I'm not optimistic. My medical team has tried just about everythig (including hypnosis), without good results. I'm at the limit of what pain medication my doctor will prescribe so this is just about the last throw of the dice. (BTW, I wish some of these "pain doctors" would have to feel the way their paitents feel.)

KLB, I so agree with you.  Mine is tinnitus in a deaf ear.  It is 24/7 and sleep is terrible.  They want to do meds for depression etc. and I keep telling them I wouldn't be upset if I could have help learning to live with the air hose in my ear.  They say sorry can't do anything for that.  I so hope you find some reliefe.

@PuppyLoverBob666   In case you're saying "ugh" because you think it'll be unpleasant, don't worry about it.  I've had many of them, mostly ineffective trying to find the right spot.  They deaden the area before inserting the epidural, so you really don't feel much.  Good luck and I hope it works for you.

@Kachina624

this is good to know...my son is having one done for a herniated disc post auto accident and he asked me about it. I have never had an epidural (all 4 kids born with no meds) so I couldn't tell him.  I was hoping it wouldn't be too bad.

I've had 2 and they were life savers for me.  Had terrible back issues, had a epidural and almost immediately I was feeling better.  Had a 2nd one and I was 100% perfect.  I asked how long it would last and dr. said it may not work  at all to it may work for a lifetime.  So far for me it's been about 30 years!

Good luck!!

Prior to my cervical fusion surgery, it was part of the process to try epidural injections.  I had it done three times within about six months.  The procedure itself is nothing, quick and painless. Unfortunately, I only felt good until the numbing medication wore off.  They didn't help me at all.

I've had several epidurals - varying degrees of success. The successful ones in lower back have worked for years.

Good luck.

I hope it will work for your son, @bmorechick  -- I've had several for herniated discs but found that sometimes it takes a few days for the meds to kick in.
