Haven't had one yet, so this is a second hand recommendation.

A co-worker was going to have one and said starting the week  before she took a stool softener every night before dinner to make everything move more easily.

It's a  good theory, I think, but maybe someone here already does that, and could mention their success?

I tried that once beofre my prep and it made no difference.

Re: tips for colonoscopy prep

I went for my consultation last Monday.  Couldn't get it scheduled any earlier than January 12th which is a bummer.  With my husband having health issues, I get nervous about making appointments to far out since I might have to cancel.  He's my driver to get there and back.

I've already ordered my miralax and dulcolax.  Instead of Gatorade, I'm gonna use 64 oz of Propel lemon energy drink cause it's cheaper.

This will be my fourth or fifth one.  I was supposed to have it in 2020 but the pandemic happened.

@Mmsfoxxie

Glad to hear you have one scheduled. I can relate to appointments being far out, but for different reasons. Right now I am seeing so many different doctors, which includes several procedures.

I am never exactly sure how many days or weeks out my doctors might want to see me again. When they throw a date at me, my memory bank is not there when it comes to days, or more specifically, the time on that specific day.

Have had many times where I had 2 different doctor visits on the same day. Fact it happened the day my Hematologist discovered the Blood Clot in my left arm. I had an appointment to see my PCP an hour after the Hematologist. Had to have my Hematologist cancel it, since he ordered a Doppler Ultrasound because of the suspected Blood Clot.

Well, you got a ways to go when it comes to Colonoscopy. Had my 16th a few months ago, and an Endoscopy at the same time. My Gastro doctor demands Go/NuLytely for prep. Told me with the other preps, they had too many patients they couldn't complete the procedure, because of running into obstructions from not being clean enough. The patient then had to reschedule.

Hope all goes well with it come January, starting with no conflict in schedules.

I have also noticed how far in advance medical appointments are given. In the past I was able to get an appointment three or four weeks in advance. Now an appointment is given months in advance. If it is an emergency you are told to go to urgent care or an emergency room of a hospital.

@hckynutjohn, I can't imagine anyone not being cleaned out if they followed the directions.  As some point it should feel like pee with no solids.  Some people probably followed their OWN instructions, lol.

I agree that some say "yes" when asked, but their answer should be "I think", being they followed their own prep plan.

My Gastro Doctors only told me what they have experienced with any prep but the Go/NuLytely prep. Different people, different Colon lengths. I found out, I think it was after Colonoscopy #11, that my Colon is over 2' longer than most.

Since my Colon Bleed was at the furthest point of scope entry(the right Colon)made it more likely why it took a Lower Double Balloon Enteroscopy to find my Colon Bleed. Even The Camera Pill, which took over 3,000 pictures, did not find the bleed.

After about gallon 8, drinking that prep almost became normal for me. Still not the easiest, but I did what I had to do. If I had to repeat a Colonoscopy? Can't imagine what my total would be by now.

I drink each glass holding my nose shut. You can't taste anything doing this. The worst part for me is geting the last glass down. I feel like my stomach is going to bust.

@Keybra

About 10 days after I had a Heart Catheterization, I noticed a mild type pain around my bicep/tricep area on my left arm. This was around the area where the IV was placed during my Heart Cath Procedure.  It also did not look right.

I had an already scheduled appointment with my Hematologist and had it looked at there. They sent me immediately to have a Doppler Ultrasound because they suspected a Blood Clot.

Was put on Eliquis, a type of blood thinner. At my visit yesterday I had the same Ultrasound Procedure, and was given the All Clear. So I do not need to take the Eliquis any longer.

Need more info? Just ask and if I know the answers I will try to explain them as best I can.

After saying all this, I have to make sure you are familiar with my background in reading my body. When it sends signals to me, I usually know when something is not quite right. I have had a multitude of very serious health issues.  This was/is something I learned over several decades and many trial and error events.
