@JoyFilled Warrior , you have gotten a lot of good advice here.  Hopefully you are feeling a bit better, since you are going out today.

As others have said, since you are breathing normally, hopefully that means no punctured lung.  My husband broke a few ribs several years ago.  He did have X-Rays.  All they did was bind him up.  He was in terrific pain; I don't have to tell you about that!

I hope you are on the mend!  Woman Happy

I took a really bad fall the other night.

My sister called it  a "pin ball fall." (something like that, where I bounced around, then was pinned in by several items, outside on the steps, in the rain.

Anyone remember what was done for their broken ribs?

TIA

@JoyFilled Warrior

Have had a total of 9 broken ribs. The most recent being 4 on my left side. Originally diagnosed as 1 bring broken via Xray.

Continuing to have trouble getting a full breath(measured myself daily with a Spirometer) so went back to see my PCP. New Xray showed a buildup of Pleural Fluid in my left lung. This led to a procedure called Thoracentesis, which removes this fluid, to allow the lung to fully expand. Over 1.4 liters was temoved.

The new Xray showed 4 broken ribs, not just the 1 seen in the original Xray. I was told it was because of the Pleural Fluid being built up.

What was done for all of my many broken ribs, medically? Nothing except suggesting taking pain killers.

All I can add personally is to find a way to lie down in the least painful way. Sometimes it is on the broken rib side, at other times it is the opposite.

In my case, it made taking a full breath when ice skating or working out, much more painful. What helped me was to physically lift my rib cage. This allowed the lungs to fully expand, without feeling as much pain from the internal pressure on the broken rib(s).

Wish I could tell you a way to ease your pain, or expedite your healing time. Other than pain killers, which for me could only be Acetaminophen(tylenol) because of my massive Colon bleeds.

Best wishes to you as these fractured ribs rank right towards the top of pain levels I have experienced with my many serious types of injuries.

Once again, you, have offered more incredible advice, personal experience, healing, & caring.

Just after the fall, it felt like I was in a car accident, hurt all over!.  I couldnt even figure out the worst parts of the pain.

I ping pong'd back & forth between the wet stairs, the railing, and City Trash bin, that was pushed up against the stairs.

And next day, I noticed there were bricks, right there, lining the massive hydrangea plant up against the railing & stairs, that I landed on.  All this lit only by an small porch light. I seemed to have "pin ball'd" around among all these items.

Had the stair railing not been there to hand climb up, I wouldnt have been able to arise.  And if I'd thought to wear my cell phone, it would have been smashed for sure.

Some of this awful pain has eased, daily.  It's now come down to the last, the left ribs.  But I can still breath without labor.

I will pursue all these great suggestions y'all have offered.  And am so grateful for all the advice, experience & care that y'all have so generously offered me.. *yet again*

Thank you!   Woman HappyHeart
