My friend is having a prostate biopsy tomorrow , It is done with a hose type camera in the rectum. There is no anasteic , very little was told to him on what to expect with pain. If anyone knows of someone that has had this is there a lot of bleeding, and pain after wards. I am so worried for him.

I'm surprised he didn't get more info, I would look the procedure up online.

@BeccaLou Try not to worry. If your friend is going to a qualified medical facility, they will make sure that the person is comfortable during the procedure and afterwards.

@Linmo What about after the procedure ? I want to know if he can care for himself .

It sounds like an outpatient procedure to me. If the person is sedated during the procedure, someone else should drive them home and the person should just rest. Most people have no complications from those types of procedures. They just need to recover from the anesthesia.

@BeccaLou I would look it up on line and I'm sure if he expresses concern over pain prior to the procedure, they will be able to offer him something, perhaps prior and/or after. I'm sure if they felt he would be experience a lot of pain, he would be given something to offset that pain, since they don't want him to "tense up" or move around during the procedure.
These are probably fairly routine, so he should be fine, as it may be slightly uncomfortable, but only for a short time. You are a good friend to be worried about him, but I'm sure he will be fine and he should ask the doctor or his staff any questions he may have before they get started.
Just like women's annual checkups, not particularly fun but tolerable.

@BeccaLou Trust their doctor to know what's best. Depending on the area that they are testing, giving local anethesia is sometimes more painful and ineffective than whatever test they are doing. Without anesthesia and assuming there are no complications, your friend should be fine afterwards!

They may use a local anesthetic, in which case he can drive home with no problem. This seems to be increasingly common.
