I believe that Medicare (not sure if you're on Medicare or not) covers cutting toe nails about every 3-4 month (I think that's the interval).  I'm sure the podiatrist would handle corns and calluses at the same time.  That's asssuming that you'd want the podiatrist to cut your toe nails.  That would put you on a regular appointment.

Medicare only covers it if you are a diabetic or if it's medically necessary.

They don't cover routine visits.

Non diabetics with certain medical or physical limitations are also covered.  My sister is paralyzed on one side and Medicare covers her podiatrist.  My friend's aunt is 300 pounds, mostly belly fat.  She's not diabetic but Medicare covers the podiatrist because she can't bend to cut her toenails.

I said or if medically necessary...

I see mine about every 6 weeks for chronic wound care since 2017. Medicare and my secondary ins. pays it all...with the correct codes.

I have issues from a botched surgery many years ago. I see my podiatrist every 7 weeks to keep my pain in check.

I hear you!  Every night when I have to lube up heels and put socks on for bed I ponder why my heels were just fine when I was 18 ☹️

Would a consult be in order to solve ongoing issues?  Corns might call for a different type and size of shoe?

@Still Raining I get corns when I wear shoes that don't have enough room in the toe box and my toes get squeezed together.

Re: podiatrist: as needed or regular appointments?

I was paying a Kaiser foot nurse 60 a month to come and cut my toenails.

She worked in the podiatry Dept.  Ten minutes in and out.  When covid came, I quit and did my own.  I naturally spend a lot more time on doing  my feet than she did. Time was money for her.

I brought a foot kit with a drummel.  Soak my feet in epsom salts or cider vinger and listerine.  Sometime put essiential oils in water.

Right now, I have a terrible callus on the bottom of right foot and have a hard time walking.  I use salonpas small sq. that helps so i can take the dog for a walk.

I ice it to stop the pain.  It says to use heavy cream.  I always moisturize my feet with creams, but last night, I decided to use vaseline and my foot feels so much better this morning..  That is a heavy cream.  I will ice it before our walk.  I may have found the answer.

I have to get a referral to go to the podiatrist at Kaiser, but last time they didn't do much to help.  I need new orthotics, but so expensive and medicare does not help pay for them.

I am 87, but thank god, I can still bend to do my own feet.

Your comment made me LOL.  I have NEVER been able to wear socks to bed ... I have to take them off because it feels like I'm still dressed!  Woman LOL

Re: podiatrist: as needed or regular appointments?

I am diabetic and have ingrown nails--I see my podiatrist every 6 weeks. Medicare pays for that. I have no idea how insurance works if a patient is not diabetic when it comes to seeing a podiatrist regularily.
