I went for my 6 months lipid appointment yeterday, to discuss my test results. I am taking repatha for high cholesterol and it is working very well BUT..........my triglycerides went up about 30 points from the last time ---due to my wonky diet. The other results went up too, but not as drastic. So got a very gentle dressing down about my diet--it has been awful--can't lie--and I know better---so back to being a responsible adult--again---need to start my fish oil caps again--need to drink more water---need to check my bp daily too. Funny tho, my lousy diet ---and really my whole menu is not garbage---just some of it----I've lost about 10 lbs and mostly from portion control as well as walking alot----but still--I must clean up my act!!! Had almost 5 months of very stressful happenings too----but am seeing to all that-----so it goes!!!

It's a daily effort isn't it?! And when we see results like your weight loss in our minds it kind of justifies the bad choices in our diet. As you say it's not all bad but I'm finding out if I don't stay away from most carbs and especially sugar it's too tempting and addicting.
Have recently been having one of the Egg Harbor salmon pieces for lunch. I don't finish it all, use the 1/3 for the next day lunch with some salad mix from Trader Joe's, squeeze of 1/2 meyer lemon as it is so sweet and low fat balsemic dressing.
Has been working great. I have an annual physical next week so keeping the diet in check. Hopefully for a good long time

It's very difficult to keep track of macronutrients. It can change your blood work so quickly. All you can do is start over which is what we have to do everytime we face food. You should be proud of your loss and not so hard on yourself. When your super rigid it can make your irritable and feel like your starving. Spring is here for some which means great produce is coming in from the warmer states and that's a good thing.

Just read this as I wasn't familiar with Repatha: "Repatha isn't approved to treat high triglycerides." Maybe try a statin.
I take Simvastatin. My diet isn't great either - my cholesterol is great including triglycerides. I took a different statin in the past also with great results - Atorvastatin.

@wagirl All good wishes for your success. Just remember, it isn't about what you don't eat, it is about what you do eat! Get out that list and stick to it! You can do it.
We have so many fresh fruits and veggies, great whole grains, salad greens, organic fruits and veggies, and lean chicken and great tinned fish now (Tonnino tuna is very good!). Incorporate low-sodium beans for fiber, whole grains only, brown rice as a basis for a salad, etc.
Spring is a great time to get started. Invest in what you eat--buy great foods and enjoy them in new ways! Treat yourself to great food that is good for you! Buy or check out a good cookbook!

I think Repatha is given in conjunction with a statin.

You know what you have to do. You just have to stop making excuses for yourself and decide if you are willing to accept the risks of coronary artery disease, heart attack, peripheral artery disease to eat whatever it is you eat. Have you had a conduit with nutritionist? It sounds like you are doing it alone and making assumptions that might be incorrect. Getting professional guidance on nutrition would benefit you.

@chrystaltree I agree 100 percent and a doctor should give someone orders to see a dietician and insurance should pay for it.
We have been on what is basically a Mediterranean style diet for 3 years and have lost weight, had better numbers and felt better. Be sure you get all the protein you need, calcium and fiber especially. We used an app on our phones.
Before long you should start to feel better and the cravings will be so much less if you fill your body with what it needs. We were amazed at what a difference always meeting protein, fiber and calcium had on us, and we had a good diet to begin with!
It is about what you eat; not about what you don't eat!
