Re: message from Medicare - coronavirus

I believe the test is around $3,000 but don’t quote me on that. 😉

If you have symptoms, my hospital is asking that you do not show up unannounced. Please call ahead. They meet you in the parking lot wearing appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment) and take you in through a specific entrance to minimize exposure risks. Certainly if you are in severe respiratory distress you can call 911 but please mention concern for possible Covid-19.

Isn't it amazing Washington State can spend four million for a motel in a small town at least 50 miles from Seattle to house sick patients? This small town has no outbreak of the disease. The elected officials there were not notified of this decision and are part of the same county as Seattle called King county. I am sure the people in Kent are very angry at Seattle for this decision and feel they should keep it in their own backyard. They have a homeless situation much like San Francisco and you would think that four million would have gone a long way's in getting these people off the streets and a chance to clean up the streets with all the garbage and bathroom problems they have. One can only hope the Mayor and officials in Kent can stop this intrusion by Seattle.

I doubt there are many suitable motels for sale that can accommodate the need.  Seattle isn't where the outbreak is but the eastside.

@Silkeej

I just wanted to clarify your comments about the motel. The city of Kent is 21 miles from Seattle, not "at least 50 miles."

And King County purchased the motel, not the city of Seattle. Both cities, however, are in King County.

The King County Executive did kinda blind-side the mayor of Kent, but he said the County had to move quickly.

@tansy : I'm sure you are correct about the lack of availability of suitable buildings.  The criteria include: separate A/C and heating per room, air from room vents outside, not to hallway, allows at least 6' all around.  This motel will only hold six patients.

Six people?!  I didn't know that there were so few rooms.

Re: message from Medicare - coronavirus

 I may have had the miles off but are there are no motels in Seattle for 4 million dollars? Why bring sick people to a community that isn't having the problem?  What King county did in my book is wrong and the people in Kent should be furious that the County thought they could pull this off without telling anyone. The King County executive should be ashamed of himself.

Go to google and look up the motel econo inn in Kent, Washington. it has two levels of rooms it holds a lot more than six people and one of the reasons people are upset.

Yes, it looks like it would hold 80 patients.  The problem I can understand being concerned about is that patients could possibly go out into the community from there.
