I take magnesium daily.  It helps with a lot of various things and many people are magnesium deficient but don't realize it.  But there are many different forms and it's important to understand the different uses.  I personally use Magnesium Glycinate before bed to help me unwind and relax and also use Magnesium Citrate to prevent constipation.  Everyone's needs are different, but your body will often be the best guide to let you know how much to take.  For example, if you take too much Magnesium Citrate it'll have the opposite effect, so stay close to a bathroom.  I'm no expert on Magnesium but have found two forms that definitely work for me.

Why is that, and where did you get your stats on this?

I take it before going to bed.   It helps relax me.  I started taking it after my second knee replacement.   I was getting leg cramps and the magnesium really helped.

I also take magnesium before bed. I had been waking up every couple hours trying to walk off foot and leg cramps. So far so good. I won't be without it now.
