I've been doing time-restricted fasting without knowing it for the past year and a half, by circumstance.

While I am in no way on a plant-based diet (nor aspire to be), neither do I stuff my face, calorie, carb or nutrition-wise, with nothing but kwap either. I watch my sugar & carbs.

I have lost some weight, but not nearly as much as would be expected. Not all that much over 18 months. The TRF has not affected my blood pressure or my diabetes, i.e. has not improved them. Much is said about intermittent fasting in and of itself,  almost "curing" diabetes, but I haven't seen that at all, nor have I lost a huge amount of weight.

I'm sitting at 17 hrs without food right now. I have no physical ill effects, and don't really feel hungry, but on the flip-side I'm not getting any benefit either, that I can see.

If fasting "must" be done in conjunction with a 100% plant-based diet in order to "work", then it's not going to help me, clearly, because I'm not going there. Life's too short.

My eating schedule (I don't use the word "diet" anymore) isn't entirely plant based, although I do consume lots of veggies with my protein sources.

I eat eggs, plain unsalted meats, plain fish/seafood, unsugared yoghurt, and small portions of nuts.

All my body systems and blood testing are much better than they were before I started.

I don't "watch" kwap, I omit it.

It always gives me major giggles when I hear " I watch what I eat" because I WATCHED what I ate for years, then ate everything in SIGHT.

Check out website with Dr. Gabe Mirkin.  He has had lots ot say  about this in the past.

I can lose weight and remain healthy if I don't nibble (better said than done) and if I can find a plan that I can follow.  I do believe that MODERATION IS THE KEY.

Are you looking for something new to try?

You might be surprised to find that giving up "moderation" would work better for you than you think! 😉

@Happiness Is Inside JOB

I have done that for decades now, more often when I was competing in Road Runs and doing a lot of hockey games as a Referee. For me it is an easy thing to do because between doing it that long, and being on a "Clear Liquid Diet" when in the hospital for weeks having umpteen Colonoscopies, I have had lots of experience with it.

It always made me feel much better, and also seemed to make me feel lighter, with is always a good thing before any strenuous physical/long term activity. Read and heard about this at several Clinics I attended back in the late 1970's-1980's. Gave it a try and liked the way I felt after.

Still do this at a minimum of once a month, usually twice a month. Doing this never made me feel weak, even for the 17 days I had to do it when in the hospital for Colonoscopies and/or Double Balloon Enteroscopies. During those times I was Anemic, with very low Hemoglobin readings, but still very physically fit, which really was a blessing for me during those long periods of Colonoscopy/Gallon of GoLytely/Blood Transfusions and Iron Infusions.

Worth seeing if it does the same for you if you have no major health issues. Might want to check with your doctor about this first.

I posted in other threads that I also was of the belief "everyting in moderation."  Then I realized moderation doesn't work for me.  What works for me is eliminating the foods totally.  I don't feel deprived once I get over that hump of not having the stuff.  I end up just not wanting it.

But if I have 1 cookie, that isn't enough.  I have to have another cookie and another cookie and another.  It just sets me off.

"Moderation" isn't the answer for me. I have 2 cups of coffee in the morning, 2 cups of tea at noon, and my super nutritious meal at night, always dark green leafy veggies as salad or hot greens, egg whites and one whole egg, unsalted mixed nuts, berries, or a green apple.

I've lost 85 pounds, and after gaining 7-8 of them back because of a sleep issue, I'm back to my routine and feeling great.

In this last challenging year, my average daily activity level wasn't as high as it should have been, but I'm getting back to that schedule too.

My eating window is about 4:45-7 pm. Works great for me. I don't recommend it to ANYONE but my doctors are happy with what I'm doing.

Ms Violann -

Thank you so much for your detail, I think I will attempt, "ATTEMPT" to adapt something similar to this at least 3 days per week.  I would love to work up to everyday.  I like your dinner as I like greem veggies and I like eggs in addition to what you listed.

I need to lose at least 30 lbs at a minimum, 60 at "perfection".

thanks again.

I never did it and I've done everything.  It's really just reducing your calories except instead of doing 1200 calories for 7 days, you do  something like 1700 one day and 500 the next day and so on and so forth.  Or you do 3 days at 1800 followed my 2 days at 600 calories.  There are many variations but at the end of a week, you are still taking in 8400 calories.  Same as that 1200 calories a day.  I don't think a nibbler could get through the fasting days and you still have to eat a low fat, low carb on all your days.  I'm sure it works for those who can take the fasting days.  Not many can.

I'm an experienced Intermittent faster & I strongly disagree with your suggestion that IF is simply low calorie. It is very different than low calorie.

IF done correctly offers many health benefits and fat loss is just one of them. Most people find fasting very easy, much easier than low calorie ever dreamed of being.

IF is actually the way humans were meant to eat. Eating all day long is not good for us even if calories are low and/or the food is healthy.
