My sister broke both her ankles and still has a lot of pain. Doc checked out the positioning of the repair and all good with that but she has a lot of nerve damage too. Injuries hurt in so many ways, not just the initial effects.

@Mz iMac --What are you asking? Insurance I have is Medicare and they won't cover those type of injections. And NO, am not planning on getting pregnant --amniotic material for the injection is from donors, blood is needed for prp and would come from me.

@Jk9 --omgosh!!! both ankles broken?? I can't imagine how awful that was for her. Mine hurt too, from nerve damage but that did finally stop--nerves take a very long time to heal. Did she have physical therapy? That helped me alot --actually had them come to my place 2x a week.

@Carol Diane --my ankle pain isn't unbearable but it is annoying and makes me limp, then that throws my back out of whack, then I go to my chiro for relief from that. And it doesn't hurt where all the hardware is, altho there is a screw that is a little long--just heard that from this new foot dr. And it can wake me up at night--I just plain do not want to go thru surgery again. I like vaguely uncomfortable--that describes it well. but it would be nice not to have to take pain meds all the time----we will see-----I want a for sure, that this shot will work---and not a maybe!

Since "the ankle" is comprised of multiple bones and no one has mentioned which one or more of their ankle bones was fractured, advice fron one person to another might be like comparing apples to oranges. In any event, I would rely on a physician's or podiatrist's advice light years before any well meaning information from strangers who have never seen your ankle or likely never spent a day in med school. Seeking advice, or second opinions, from medical professionals may be a consideration.

Foot doctor as in orthopedist or podiatrist?
JMO and experience, podiatrists are not always on the up and up with their recommended tests and treatment plans.

@CelticCrafter --I saw a podiatrist this recent time and had gone to my orthopaedic surgeon several times---surgeon told me --I do surgery, only surgery--so I went to a ped dr this time. Am fairly confident this dr is very much up to date on all things related.

@Q-Checker --and as I stated in my original post--this is something new to me alth o not new in general and I thought it was interesting enough to pass it on. No one has to know what bones were broken to be interested and I certainly wasn't asking for any home remedies---no advice or 2nd opinions were ever asked for. I could send my xrays tho----they are quite a sight. Not sure what your point is ?

Hey @wagirl you forgot about me. I broke my ankle in 2 places that same month in 2022.
I have pain too on and off too alot. I even still swell up some after a long day of walking. It seems very easy to twist and i have stairs. I am now much more careful with steps. Everytime I make a dumb twist I swell for about a week.
I heard once bones are broken it turns ito arthritis in old age.
I am living with it.
Be well.

@Pink123 --OH Pink!! Yes I did forget about your poor ankle---bad me
Well, my break was pretty bad and everyone is amazed that I am doing so well at my ancient age
---mine doesn't swell at all and can walk just fine and do walk alot with my DD. It's the top part of my foot and around the ankle bones and nowheres near all the hardware I have. More soft tissues pain and not bone pain from arthritis. that is the reason for the CT scan, too see more in depth inside.I have stairs too but not in my apartment but still am very careful about those.Going to see what is going on with the scan. All that's been done has been xrays from my surgeon who will take out the hardware if I want--me NO want anymore surgery !!!
