going to a sleep clinic today---

[ Edited ]

So that's my big plan for this morning---and very appropriately, I slept like CR@P last night!! Which is good, I guess--usually you go to a dr and your ailment has mysteriously gone away.  I am a horrible sleeper--have been since childhood---and it's just gotten worse these last few years because--why not add that on to turning 70 too--you know--the age of possibility!!! Boy, am I snarky right now--forgive me--my 4 hours of sleep is kicking my tookus!! So this will be interesting. Went to one years ago and was told that my insomnia wasn't bad enough for any testing and to keep taking my 1/2 tab of Ambien.Woman Frustrated  I have insomnia----not apnea---have tried most of the of the nonsense stuff to stop it--it doesn't work!! Don't

nap--have never been a napper---have never done counseling tho--maybe I am buckets of crazy and don't know it yet!!! Oye!!!🙄🤔

@wagirl Good luck with your sleep test.  I hope they give you help with your lack of sleep.

I also have insomnia most nights.  I have been thinking of going to a sleep clinic but I just don't understand how it works.  If you don't sleep well to begin with how in the world can you sleep in a clinic to be tested with wires, etc?  Or how can someone actually sleep with one of those CPAP machines?

ETA: Let us know how it goes.

Re: going to a sleep clinic today---

I feel your pain.  I have had insomnia for YEARS!!!!!!!  Tried several medications.  Including Ambien.

(had to stop...walked in my sleep).

I went for a sleep study...found out I do have sleep apnea..which I was surprised about..but mild.  They recommended some a mouth piece rather than CPAP because I was mild.  Of course my insurance would not pay..I'm not BAD enough.

And I don't have $2000 to pay for it.

So back to trying other medications.

I'm ending my stressful job this week.  Hoping that will help.  FYI..I'm 66.

Best of luck to you!!!

I hope you get the answers you're looking for, @wagirl.  I have goofy sleep patterns too.  I try to take a magnesium blend but sometimes forget.  I need to get better at that, plus sticking to a routine, and not relying on naps because they contribute to messing up my nights.

Re: going to a sleep clinic today---

When I had my sleep study..Yes you are hooked up to a BUNCH of wires all over you body.  Actually strange it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.  The room looked like an actual bed room .  Had a TV..Was actually pleasant.  I think they have to make as nice as possible ...

They told me if I had "so many events per hour" they would come in and hook me up to a CPAP machine...And that did happen.  I tried that for a little while...couldn't tollerate it.  So they returned and took it off.  And I basically slept till about 6am...and then it was done.

I had an appointment with my doc.  about a week later to go over the results.

Best of luck.  Hopefully it goes well.

Re: going to a sleep clinic today---

@haddon9 --this is my first visit to this sleep dr so there won't be a test--yet. And not sure I will have to go some place overnight--I read you can do a test at home if one is needed and going to a strange place ---all wired up---would be a night of 100% no sleep for me. My stupid ex had bad apnea and got a machine--by then I moved into my own room so have no idea if he used it much---am pretty sure he tried to wear it but never maintained it as we are now divorced, due to that and a multitude of other issues. Yes I will repot back

@JeanLouiseFinch --yes I have done all you mentioned--the magnesium, and routine and diet --I think----the magnesium has helped--a tiny bit---and I do take it nightly. My day starts at 3:30 a.m. and so by noon time, I am exhausted---and there is still 8 hours left before I go to bed----vicious cycle.

@wagirl  Wishing you luck at the sleep clinic.

I have sleep apnea, had no idea until the sleep study, hate the cpap but honestly, the darn thing works, I'm not tired all the time which is a positive.

Is your lifestyle mostly sedentary? I walk an average 6 miles a day and find that I sleep like a baby. Yes, I am 70 also. Perhaps get your body moving to make yourself welcome sleep at night. JMO
