Is it possible to eat low carb and tone your body,if so can you give me some tips what to eat or not. I am doing pilates, do you think that is enough. one more thing, what about the ketogenic diet, is that the same as the low carb diet. Thanks in advance

tashy ~ When I was only doing pilates (because of a back injury), I was on a no-carb (occasional brown rice) diet, i.e.,veggies and lean meat. I had to be very mindful of what I put in my mouth on a daily basis as I was on restrictive exercise. I had no problems with weight gain or loss of tone.

Just make sure you get a lot of protein and drink a TON of water.

Low carb diets are dehydrating - that

It's how you lose the first 5-10 pounds (water weight).

Lifting weights is the fastest way to tone up...combine that with Pilates (to lengthen your muscles) and some aerobic activity and you'll see fast results.

I had a trainer who was a body builder. He was on a NO carb diet before his competitions. He drank at least one liter of water every hour and took potassium pills (can't have bananas, because of the carb content).

Re: ? for those that workout......

Most of what I eat are complex carbs and I would never go on any eating program that restricted them unless I was diabetic or some other medical reason.

Never believed in weight loss this way and I've read countless books and been to many seminars given my Sports Medicine Certified Doctors in about every field remotely connected to Exercise Physiology. This include 3 seminars with the Dietician that made up the menu for the US Olympic Team years ago and in my opinion nothing has changed enough to convince me any good comes of losing weight in this manner.

While I am a lacto-ovo vegetarian since the mid 1970's, I eat what I want to eat but pretty much stick with foods that are top grade fuel for my body, and complex carbs are one of the best for me.

To each be their own.

I have discovered FitnessGlo.com. It is a great exercise website on line. They have all kind of classes from yoga, weights, pilates. I have been doing this since December and love it. I can do this at home. It is only 15.00 a month. The instucters are great about telling when to breath and such.{#emotions_dlg.biggrin} Check it out any one looking for a new way to work out.
