I have wonderful news, my son got to come home today. He called us last night and he sounded so good. Talked and talked and he said this is the best he has felt in a long time.
He called this afternoon to tell us he has a Dr's appointment this afternoon. My DH and myself are going to go and see him tomorrow. I am so relieved that he is feeling better and he now realizes what he needs to do. I pray he can stay well. He's even looking forward to getting back to work on Wed. 1/2 days until next week.
Thanks to all of you with your posts and prayers and hugs. I am so thankful for this thread, as it helped me get through this past week.

@LeenyI'm so happy that your son is home and doing better! Diabetes adds an extra complication to the mix in terms of medication and overall health. I agree with you that depression (and other mood disorders) can be inherited. One of my twin daughters is bipolar and the other suffers from depression. It takes time to figure out the right medication and dosage, but it's just as important to find the right therapist. These are life-long conditions and developing coping mechanisms to deal with them is just as important as the medication. We have a wonderful therapist who deals with mood disorders in young adults and has worked miracles for my daughters. She is not their psychiatrist, but well worth the extra cost to prevent hospitalization and possibly worse. Wishing the best for your family,

@dooBdoo Thank you for your kind words. We ( my DH and I went to see our son today and it was so good to see him feeling well. Especially to see the smile on his face and in his voice.
He's got a lot of follow up to do and has a great team of doctors to rely on. His one doctor even gave him her personal phone # if he ever needs her. It's amazing the wonderful care he received.
Again, I am thankful to all the people who responded to me when I was having such a rough time. All the prayers and advice and compassion I felt here helped me get through this, but my entire family. God Bless You All.

Hi, @Leeny! I've been checking all day in hopes of seeing a promising update from you. This is encouraging news! With each day there's potential for a bright and bountiful new beginning. I have faith for good things to come. Our dear @mistriTsquirrel ❤️ has a wonderfully informative, supportive long-standing thread here in "Wellness." The subject line is "Depression," and you might want to visit there as well as here or any other threads of your choosing when you want to post updates, questions, or just read a bit. That discussion has been active since 2013, but unfortunately a large chunk of our posts vanished when the new Community platform was launched. Wherever you decide to post -- if you do -- I know you can count on the magnificently compassionate, experienced, knowledgeable, and warm-hearted posters to show up for you and yours.
I continue to pray for your dear son, for his professional support team, and of course for you and your husband. (((hugs)))❤️

@Teddie Thank You for the prayers for us and the kind words. We went to see him today and he was in high spirits and he was so happy to be home. I feel so much better and so does my DH. It's been a long week, but now we know he's on his way to better health each and everyday.
Thanks Again,

@Linmo Thank You for the kind words, but also sharing your story.
Depression is such a complicated disease, but like you said put diabetes into the mix and you have a complicated ordeal. Luckily his diabetes is doing well even after all of this. I thought maybe that would have gotten all messed up ( his numbers and his tests all came back good) Thank Heavens!!
Medications were changed and even dropped a couple. He said he has slept so good the past couple of nights and that is something he hasn't been able to do for a long time. He has a good psychologist and she has been there for him plus he has such a good repoir with her. It's just another thing he knows he can rely on if he needs her.
Support is so important not only from doctors and meds, but he knows his family is there whenever he needs us.
I wish all the best for both of your daughters. It's tough to see our kids deal with this illness, but at least we live in the times that there are so many people who can help with this illness.
Thanks again,
Leeny

I am so happy your son is getting better. Do keep us updated so we can follow his recovery. Most of us that understand this illness, through our own experiences, want to keep up with your son, and you of course.
We understand that this is an ongoing process, and at times, it does get rough. Your son has a good doctor(how to personally contact her) should these occurrences come up. You can always bend my ears whenever you wish and I will help as much as I am able.
Wishing your son and your family nothing but the best, and I appreciate your kind words in your replies.

Hello @hckynut
I didn't mean to leave you hanging by any means. I'll try to do better from now on.
Yes, my son is doing a lot better. It amazes me to see him so at ease. He went back to work for a half day today and a half day tomorrow. He then has 4 days off and will return to work full time next Wed. He said he was looking forward to returning to work. He and his wife are going to go on a little vacay up north for relaxation and to refresh themselves. It is a relaxed area up by Lake Superior. I am glad they can have some quiet time together.
Thanks for the post and I am so thankful for your concerns and input into this subject. I know I am breathing a lot easier now.

@honeybuns I don't want you to feel forgotten. You're the one who started this topic. I hope you're able to help your son through what he's going through. What a caring mother you are to get involved. Prayers for your family, as well.
You have a good heart, @Teddie. Lovely post.❤️
@bargainsgirl, I continue to pray for your son and for all who love him.❤️

I would too. I"d then ask for a referral to a psychiatrist.

So this would be my thought as well. I am in group therapy & individual therapy. It might take a while to find the right 'fit' but it's worth it!
Good thoughts to all!
