This is what my dentist did when I had pain in my tooth and the endo and dentist were not sure if I needed a root canal. They watched the tooth for a month for so, to see what would happen with it. Sometimes the pain is from the tooth not being protected properly, or a very deep cavity, just as an FYI. I would see an Endo, and have them do the x-rays though, just in case a root canal is needed. I had to have a second bridge put in after only 5 years because I needed more dental work. I can't even tell you how much money went down the drain, even with dental insurance.
I am sorry your husband is going through this, it is so frustrating.
DH's next appt is Feb2 and on that day the dentist is planning to permanently glue it on no matter what. He went in today because the temporary came off again and a different dentist was there. She was concerned about it being so sensitive so she took x rays - thank goodness some one in that office is listening to him. She said she would review the x rays closely before his next appt. The regular dentist has the flu - I hope he takes off work for a few weeks and this nice girl is there on the 2nd.

I am more familiar with bridges than most people. If there is a tooth underneath the bridge that is still bothering him, just have it removed. It will cost less and the bridge doesn't need it unless it is one of the anchor teeth. Most root canals have to be pulled eventually anyway.

I recently had my whole top bridge replaced (in two separate bridges). One of them did not fit and had be sent back. I was not charged for that. when it came back, I didn't like the color and one of the teeth was too long. It went back again and I was still not charged. I was told until I was satisfied, there would be no charge.
I belong to a discount plan which I discussed on this forum many months ago. Not only did I pay 50 to 70% less for each phase of the work to be done, but my dentist added things at no cost to me. And, as I said, no further charges even when work had to be redone.
If the OP is paying $3,000 each time this bridge is sent back, she is getting ripped off royally.
A good dentist will guarantee satisfaction at no extra cost.

I don't have a bridge (yet) but I have multiple crowns. And some root canals along the way. I've had teeth take months to re-sensitize after a particularly large filling was removed and replaced. In my experience, the tooth that needs a root canal causes excruciating pain. And relentless.
Stinks when the dental prosthesis keeps coming off. Has happened to me many times. Of course, each time that happens, it invites bacteria to enter the "wound" site, so to speak.
I agree with other posters about bite issues, temp cement, etc - and also having a good doc. My "prosthdentist" has a tool he can insert directly in the mouth to photo cracks, etc.
Good luck. I'm nearing the end of some orthodontic work to help preserve my front teeth. And having THR soon, so I hope the old molars don't act up while I'm recovering, since I will be prohibited from serious dental work for awhile.

I am so glad he got x-rays. Keep us posted.

he needs a root canal! yesterday!
cementing the permanent bridge will not fix that pain!!! and that dentist sounds like a crook.
I think so too. Unfortunately my DH will not listen to reason on this subject.
I am sorry, but from how you have described your husband, he doesn't listen to reason on many subjects. Tell him that you gave him good advice when you told him to visit the PA dr and if his tooth continues to hurt and he doesn't want to listen to good advice then you don't want to hear a word of him complaining. PERIOD. I honestly don't know how people deal with stubborn people who refuse to listen to reason and then have to hear them whine on top of it? No thanks.

When we were engaged his secretary warned me that he will never , under any circumstances admit when he is wrong. I should have paid attention to that. It is a bad personality trait.
