count210,
The treatment I am talking about that I'm going to receive from my therapist is called: EMDR. (Eye Movement Desensitization ________) ... forgot the last word.
My therapist gave me a hand-out booklet yesterday but I just found out NOW that half of the pages are MISSING! I am going to call her office and request that she send me out a new one.
Try googling it and I'm sure something will come up just typing the first 3 words. Then you can read up on it. It's too hard to explain it here.
There is paperwork I have to do to hand in to her next week. I also had to "visualize" a container in my mind ... any shape, size, material, color or texture. This is going to hold any disturbing thoughts/emotions/issues that I am currently struggling with. Then I had to label the container: OPEN ONLY AT A SAFE TIME AND PLACE ... which is a time and place chosen by me. It said to take my time doing this but I wrote everything down then put them one by one in the container. Then I sealed it up. If I forgot something I can put it in by visualizing I am doing this like a piggy bank ... a slit thru the top so none of the other things come out. There is more to this that will take too much time to type here.
I know the first phase of the actual starting of the EMDR is that I choose one of the disturbing issues out in her office and she asks me questions about it. There is a method of her doing this. Only one part of the brain is holding all this emotional stuff. By the time I'm done, it will be equally divided (I think) in my brain so just thinking of these disturbing thoughts will not bother me. I will remember them but they will no longer keep me in this prison I feel I'm in.
There is a lot more to this. Just too much to put here. Like I said ... if you google: Eye Movement Desensitization, it should come up. Have you heard of EMDR before? I hadn't. Let me know what you think!
She is also a qualified hypnotist. After the EMDR is over, I also want to receive hypotherapy for anxiety and panic attacks. I googled "hypnotherapy" and it has interesting information.
