First ,does any one take this for their diabetes? I had posted a few months ago that my doctor took me off mediformin, which i had taken for many years,because of stomach problems, well two and half months later ,i had a doctors appointment, my a1c,is perfect, i check my blood,but my test strips were old, my numbers were good, but i thought because the test strips were old that for that reason,i had good numbers, so has anyone had the ceylon cinnammon help with their numbers? I  am happy ,but questioning.

I have Type II as well and so far I have experimented with Ceylon, Saigon and Vietnamese cinnamon. My A1c has been 5.1 for well over a year now.....but as you know, our bodies constantly change, so what works for one person may not work for another. I have been reading about the Cassia variety: after I finish the Vietnamese, I'm trying it. I am a cinnamon lover and there is a real taste difference among the varieties-so if nothing else, I will enjoy the flavor.  I think the only answer is to try Ceylon, and if it works-great. If not, enjoy the flavorSmiley Happy

I'm not diabetic, but I wanted to respond in regard to the cinnamon part of it.

 

I did some research quite a while back, when I learned that all the so-called cinnamons EXCEPT Ceylon cinnamon, are actually 'cassia' and for whatever reason I don't recall they are allowed to call it cinnamon.

 

Anyway, my research told me that cassia was not a good choice for me or the bird (some of his foods I make have cinnamon in them), so I started buying ONLY Ceylon cinnamon (I get mine at the Penzey's site).

 

The only thing is, I'll be darned if I can remember WHY cassia is not a good choice for us, but YMMV anyway so I guess it's not as relative and I'm sure the info is easy to find.  Smiley Happy

Golden, I don't want to come off as rude, but you need to see a Diabetes Educator post haste......that your test strips were old suggests to me that you aren't testing regularly.  The A1c is a tool that should be used in combination with a record of daily blood sugars......and there is the issue of your meter....it could be off too. I believe in testing using Control Solution with each and every new bottle of test strips: those are usually free but to get them, you need to contact the maker of your test strips.

CB, check out "benefits of Cassia Cinnamon" on WebMD.....I'm pretty sure I have read that cheap cinnamon flavor comes from Acacia bark.......

@chickenbutt,

For some the cassia is not good because of its blood-thinning compound called coumarin. Taking this type of cinnamon in large amounts can also cause liver problems...key words ...large amounts. When taken according to the recommend amounts it should be okay.

 

I take a cassia cinnamon sup which is blended with chromium. Chomium helps regulate bs levels very well.

Silliee I just read that about Coumarin: I am pitching my Cassia because I am on Pradaxa.....that being said, good things have been said about it too, but I have a heavy hand when it comes to cinnamon. Actually, I won't throw it out: I'm going to make potpourri!

I have thought about taking cinnamon, and do take turmeric for arthritis and blood sugar both. I have taken garcinia in the past and another Indian herb. None of them have really done anything measurable for me. My gut (no pun intended, heh) feeling is that if these supplements were that great we'd be seeing "breakthrough" studies all over the media/internet NOT just from sites with a vested interest in getting people to buy them. If they really worked, it would be big news - which it isn't.
