I would never trust my dental office to take an accurate BP, especially if I was having a procedure done and they knew I was nervous.  I was lucky at my knee surgery and my cataract surgeries my BP held up good enough, but of course they know people are nervous, it would have to be way over the top to cancel.

My husband survived the widow maker MI at the age of 47.  He has never in his life had BP issues, but since 1998, he has been on 2 meds to chemically keep his BP on the low side to protect his heart.

Even tho your husbands Afib has been under control so far, that heart issue can go south quickly with a bad ending, which this cardiologist is hoping to prevent.  Being able to see a steady record of BP readings will let the Dr. know if the med dosages are correct with controlling the heart issue.   A BP reading in the doctors office monthly or quarterly is not a reliable tool for a serious heart condition.

@Mom2Dogs , I use the Omron BP monitor and find it to be very accurate. I purchased it at Walgreens.

I'm with Kaiser and my Doctor recommended Omron which I got from the pharmacy free.

@RedTop

Very good explainer RedTop. My dh's doc pretty much told us the same thing regarding why we are tracking BP for my dh. I purchased a new Omron upper arm BP monitor to track dh's BP on a daily basis. It's just become part of our morning, and sometimes afternoon routine.

I bought an upper arm Omron at Costco, took it to the dr at his request to see if it was calibrated correctly. It is accurate with the one at dr's office. I finally bought an Omron wrist monitor since most of the drs I see use those now. I also took it to dr and it is accurate. So much easier than the upper arm one.  They are very inexpensive and easy to use.
