My doctor suggested CoQ10 when I started taking a statin, but I had already been taking it and credit it with getting me out of the periodontist's chair.  However, it didn't keep me from having awful side effects with Crestor.  After I stopped taking that and trying a few more natural options, I started on a generic Simvastatin and had none of the side effects I had with Crestor.

Did you have muscular weakness before you started takingCoQ10 or was your doctor being proactive?

Graduates of a college of Pharmacy may receive a doctor of Pharmacy degree, depending on the institution.

Re: appt with my Pharm dr.

@juanitalinda -- I think I did mention that I have had a successful year using repatha---my lipid #'s have never been so decent. Thought I'd give zetia a try again---got to 3 weeks and it hit me like a bag of rocks!! Took me nearly 2 weeks to get it out of my system and feel normal again. Always something--you know?

Just read thru some of the posts about co q 10---I took that as well and it did nothing while I was trying the many statins---and took fish oil too, again no help. I do still take fish oil but for other things.

@Auntie CC --NO---he is working WITH my heart dr who also knows about my history with the drug I stopped taking and recommended that I go see this pharamcist in the first place.  It is not unethical and he will not get fired---this man does not work behind the counter at Walmart!!! Good grief!!!

@juanitalinda  Bergamot and Berberine are two good supplements for lowering cholesterol. I had a Dr try to get me on statins once and I said no way, never. People should really did their due diligence and read about the many pharma drugs prescribed before taking them. I realize some may be necessary, but too many Drs are pushing too many these days.

@wagirl @tansy

pharmacology doctor is not a physician and does not have an md or a license to practice medicine.  If a physician prescribed me a medication to fight high cholesterol I would not discontune it without checking with my physician/gp.

Stopping a statin may cause your cholesterol to rise. This increases your risk of heart attacks and strokes.

If you want to stop taking the statin, it's important to find another way to lower your cholesterol.

Best of health to you @wagirl!

Good for you for taking advantage of that program! Your pharmacist will know more about your meds than any medical doctor ever could.

And to correct some assumptions, pharmacists are doctors of pharmacology and they do everything in concert with the attending physician.

And the only person who can tell you to stop a medical regimen is you. Doctors, medical and pharmacy, can counsel, but your healthcare is ultimately up to you and your willingness to comply or not.

I have decided not to take offered statins many times for a lot of these same reasons. That's the decision that is right for me too. There are many other approaches to take. I wish you well on finding yours.
