I knew this guy who had panic attacks that landed him in the ER.  He took medication for it and he said it helped and now he wants to get off of the meds.  I think he will have a very hard time functioning without his medication for those attacks.

@wagirl

I am so sorry your relative is suffering.  I suggest she see a Board Certified Psychiatrist--they are medical doctors who can diagnose, prescribe medications as well as provide therapy.

As far as her insurance paying, I thought that the Affordable Care Act required  ALL insurers to pay for mental health treatment with no annual limit.

There are so many medications on the market today that there is a much better chance that there will be one that will help her.

Best wishes to you and your relative.  I hope she finds effective treatment and is soon on the road to feeling well.

@DottieBlue --yes, she does have insurance thru the state and found  a therapist that she will virtually see on Friday. The meds she is on now seem to help alot, gratefully. thanks---

I have several relatives who have had extreme anxiety. It depends on type of anxiety and why and how it manifested. A healthy diet, good sleep hygiene, and lots of exercise are a must. There are other things that may help depending on the things I wrote first but a supportive, nonjudgmental friend who is also a good listener helps too. There can be health causes that aren’t mental or ptsd like food additive sensitivity for one that should be looked into. Good luck, it’s not easy being the supporter.

@Imadickens --happy to report, that things are going so much better than a few months ago---the meds are working very well and a weekly therapists has been  on the schedule for a few weeks. Yes I agree with what you said about life style but sometimes doing all those right things don't help much. There are health issues too, and that has alot to do with mental health. But things are getting worked out and for that I am very  grateful!!

I am truly so happy to hear things are going better! We are all fighting a health battle at times and it's wonderful to hear when the battle is going so well.

Therapy’s a good start, but for some people, it’s just not enough on its own.

My brother actually started using targeted cannabis strains after trying everything else. It wasn’t some miracle fix, but it helped take the edge off enough for the therapy to start making a real difference

This thread is a year old, although the information is still relevant.

My friend takes Prozac. Says it's the only thing that ever helped.
