I have very dense breast tissue, so when they do one it shows up all white on the screen (kind of like why bother?). They've showed it to me twice now. They also won't do ultrasound for routine screenings. Since they can't make out anything, I've actually had thermography done on my own, for my piece of mind.

@morganjen  I also do Thermograms every year and have for the last 10 years. I no longer do mammograms.  I go to a preventive clinic and was told they have many patients that have had breast cancer that have opted for thermograms.   This clinic does not take insurance so it is at my expense.  I just had it done a week ago and I believe it was under $300.

Re: Your thoughts on Mammograms?

Who are they?  I just got a 3 D mamo ,because my regular one showed an area of concern.  I have been run ragged with medical tests and hospital visits, but I s*cked it up and got it, and am glad I did

It turns out it is a cyst

I will always do what my Dr feels is the best thing for my health. It's silly to seek medical attention ,and then ignore something that will help them help you

@Laura14

I have had so many call backs on mammos that I have lost count.  Yes, you can make your own medical decisions, and yes it will cost you your life in the end.  We all have to make that decision.  Stress and worry are your choice, I have chosen NOT to worry until there is something to be concerned about.  One in eight women will get breast cancer, and to not be diligent is just dumb.  And yes, the technology is there to get an excellent view with 3D mammography.  I have also had a brain meningioma and after 12.5 hours of surgery, 5 plates in my head and cow parts covering my brain, losing eyesight, waiting for the doctor to call you is just plain stupid. Yes, consider yourself lit up. http://www.breastcancer.org/symptoms/understand_bc/statistics

Re: Your thoughts on Mammograms?

I try to have one every year because my aunt died from breast cancer. My last 3 mammograms didn't detect a 26 mm.fluid filled cyst.

Here in Italy it is done every 2 years.

I have been reading lately that sometimes all these mammograms and the 3 D ones and others can actually cause cancer!!!

That is just awful to hear!!

They say get mammogram to detect BUT i have been reading that SOMETIMES getting them cause women to BECOME cancer patients!!!

This is so disturbing!

My personal choice is to do them yearly.

Re: Your thoughts on Mammograms?

I think we have to believe that the benefits far outweigh the risks for an annual screening.

Re: Your thoughts on Mammograms?

I get them yearly and I ask the tech for a 'thyroid guard' when I get them. Not sure if the guard works but I figure better safe than sorry.
